Paul McCartney has followed in the footsteps of fellow aging rocker Keith Richards, joining the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The Beatles star posted a shot on Instagram on Sunday (NZ time), showing him in full pirate regalia, complete with long dreaded hair and a frosty beard.

He tagged the post #PiratesLife.

Richards played Jack Sparrow's father Captain Teague in At World's End and On Stranger Tides. Star Johnny Depp has said in the past the Rolling Stones guitarist was a heavy influence on his portrayal of Jack Sparrow.

The Beatles and Stones were musical rivals at the height of their fame, but friends in real life.

Richards is not listed in the Dead Men Tell No Tales cast on movie site IMDB.com.
